英文摘要:
Recently mankind has started to acknowledge the effects of climate change caused by the emission of pollutants to the atmosphere. This issue, combined with the increasing global energy demand, and the diminishing supply of the main energy sources, brings forward the urgency of novel sources renewable energy. The ocean waves are a relatively novel source of energy that could be exploited if correctly studied and developed, aiming to minimize the environmental impact and increase the power takeoff. Hence the object of this study is to estimate the wave energy reduction caused by the presence of wave energy conversion devices near the coastline of Laguna, Brazil. In order to study the coastal impact of a wave energy converter (WEC) farm, the third generation sea state model TOMAWAC, from the Open TELEMAC-Mascaret suite of free surface models, was used to simulate the waves on the Southern Brazilian Shelf under two different conditions, with and without the presence of an array of WECs. The results show that the mean Significant Wave Height in the blockaded area undergo a slight drop, caused by the presence of the WECs, that do not appear in the scenario without the devices.
