Using gale days data of 33 meteorological stations in the southern Xinjiang during 1960 - 2010,and the method of comprehensive application of the linear trend estimate, discrete power spectrum, the Mann - Kendall and cumulative anomalies, the gale weather trends, cycles and mutation characteristicsthe in the southern Xinjiang were analyzed. Results showed that: (1) Gale was linearly decreasing trend overall in the southern Xinjiang, linear decreasing rate was 1. 3d (10a)~(- 1),gale distributed spatially in Kezhou and Kashi region - west of the southern Xinjiang,Hami region - east of southern Xinjiang, the average number gale days was above10d · a ~(- 1),annual gale days of two high value centers in Naomaohu and Thirteen - room were 90d and 123d, gales in Hami region was the most, the average annual gale days was 54d. Hetian region was the least region, the average annual gale days was 3. 3d. (2) During the year, gale distribution show a single peak in the southern Xinjiang, mainly in the April to July, accounting for 62. 0% of the annual gale days, the most gale occurred in 70 years, the least gale was in 90 years, then slightly increased during 2000 - 2010. (3) The periods of oscillation were 3a,5a,7a and 10a in the southern Xinjiang, reducing mutation occurred in 1987a in the entire region.
