Methane is the second most important greenhouse gas, whereas methane emission from landfills is one of the main anthropogenic sources in the world. Therefore, as a significant part of the research of global change, the measurement of landfill methane emission is meaningful. The measurement methods are based on the principles of gas advection and diffusion according to the law of mass conservation, with flux chamber methods, micrometeorological measurements, mass balance methods, tracer plume measurements and gas plume measurements as conventional monitoring method. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages, and the novel ones will be highly valued.
