Using ecological compensation in wetland conservation is an extremely effective protective measure. Zoige Plateau wetland have very important strategic meanings in terms of regional and national ecology safety, coping with climate change. The ecological environment of Zoige Plateau wetland is facing severe challenges such as peatland degradation, desertification, water resource decrease, biodiversity decline, productivity reduce. Drainage, overgrazing and absent of compensation is the main cause for these problems. Ecological compensation in Zoige Plateau wetland is necessary and feasible. It is suggested to identify the central and provincial government as the main beneficiaries; to optimize the flexibility locally when use the compensation fund; to establish compensation standard by using different levels and types; to ensure the implementation of ecological compensation by using market mechanism and priority policy for local farmers, as well as policy, laws, capacity building, monitoring and assessment, public participation and communication.
