The avifauna and composition of birds in Yulin city of Northern Shaanxi province were investigated from 2001 to 2013 by line transect method and fixed point observation, and the result was compared with the survey of 1958~1980. A total of 243 bird species, belonging to 18 orders and 53 families, were recorded in the current survey, whereas 148 species, belonging to 17 orders and 47 families were recorded about 40 years ago. Additionally, three species were new recorded in Shaanxi province, and 75 species of Palaearctic realm, 10 of Oriental realm, and 18 of widespread species were increased, based on animal geographical regionalization. Moreover, 26, 20, 16, 31 species of resident, summer visitors, winter visitors and passage migrants in residence type were also increased, respectively. Finally, the variations of composition, avifauna and distribution under the impacts of global warming and ecological environment in Yulin city were investigated.
