Parabolic dunes belong to a landform type of stable,semi-stable dunes, developed in inland desert areas where the conditions of soil moisture and vegetation are better than other areas, and also developed in coastal zones. The four factors, sand source, regional wind regime, vegetation and soil moisture control the occurrence and development of parabolic dunes, and the evolution of its morphology are closely related to climate change and human activities. The study on parabolic dunes helps to understand the evolution of landforms and land desertification in the context of global climate change. This paper reviewed domestic and abroad progress on researches of parabolic dunes in recent years from the aspects of the morphology, classification, origin and development patterns. The study also proposed the main problems and future development trend on researches of parabolic dunes.
