The methodology in GHG inventory guidelines provided by the intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC)was used to estimate the carbon dioxide (CO_2)emissions and emission intensity of power energy consumption in China from 2001 to 2010. The characteristics of spatial disparity and temporal change of carbon emissions and carbon emission intensity from power energy consumption were analyzed on national, provincial and industrial levels. The results indicated that: ① total carbon emission of power energy consumption in China had increased from 303Mt in 2001 to 745Mt in 2010,an annual increase of 9. 99%. The carbon emission of every provincial power consumption in China showed basically an increasing trend over the past decades. In 2010, there were five provinces in eastern China where the carbon emissions were belong to extra-heavy type (≥40 Mt). The carbon emission of power consumption in western regions China kept rising rapidity all the way. ② While carbon emission intensity per GDP had decreased from 276kg / (10~4 yuan)to 182kg / (10~4 yuan),an annual decrease of 4. 42%. The every provincial carbon intensity per GDP showed a decreasing trend in the past decade. The development capacity of low-carbon economy in western regions was less than that in eastern provinces. Disparity of carbon emissions in power production and consumption were closely related to the factors such as resources endowment, economy development, population status, and woodland area of provincial-level. The study of inter-provincial discrepancy and spatiotemporal characteristics provides insight into spatiotemporal heterogeneity of carbon emission of power energy in China, and also provides references for instituting differential regions objectives of carbon emission reduction and related regulation policies of power industry development.
