An inventory of glacier boundaries and changes over decades for the Geladandong Mountain area in China has been conducted using remote sensing imagery from Landsat (MSS,TM,ETM +). The four period glacier distribution maps were acquired by using an unsupervised classification method. Then the glacier area change, the glacier outline elevation change and the lake area change were analyzed. The results showed that there was a decrease in glacier ice cover in the study area during the past 38 years. From 1973 to 2019,glacier area decreased by 95.33km~2,averagely by 2.65km~2 per year. The ice cover loss had been speeded up before 2004,but slowed down after 2004. While most of the glaciers were shrinking, some were expanding. The outline elevation of glaciers and the area of some nearby lakes were increasing over the past 38 years.
