Ordos is one of the seriously affected regions by desertification in northern China with a series of ecological protection projects implemented in this region since 2000.This study assessed and compared the effectiveness of sand vegetation restoration in Ordos area, and combined with the analysis of linear trend and analysis of correlation methods based on MODIS NDVI data from 2001to 2013and 1∶100 000sand distribution data in China, and preliminarily analyzed the reasons of vegetation change from the aspects of climate changing and human activities. Results showed that the growing season of vegetation coverage assumed overall improvement trend and the different vegetation cover of the sand dunes increased significantly during the study period in Ordos region. And also the trend of increasing vegetation coverage area would be greater than the trend of decreasing vegetation coverage area. The changing of vegetation coverage was a result of combination by human activities and climate factors in Ordos. The Precipitation was the main factor influencing the vegetation change, and increasingly intense human activity was also a paramount factor affecting the vegetation change.
