Climate changes call forth climatic suitability.Based on previous work of climatic suitability model, this study analyzed the spacial-temporal characteristics of climatic suitability for late rice all through from 1951 to 1980 and 1981 to 2010 by using the daily weather and phenological phase data sets from 195 agromeotorological stations in Southern China. The results showed that there was a decreasing trend of the climate suitability for late rice in southern China during the period from 1951 to 2010,and a significant decreasing trend from 1981 to 2010.The suitability of temperature during the late rice growth period showed an increasing trend, while the suitability of precipitation increased from 1951 to 1980,and decreased from 1981 to 2010,but that of solar radation showed a decreasing trend during the growth period of late rice. The suitability of temperature,as well as that of solar radiation declined from east to west.In view of climate variables suitability during different development periods of late rice,as the same as temperature, the suitability of precipitation from heading to blooming was lower than that in other periods. Therefore, the farmer should pay close attention to mositure and temperature management from the heading to the blooming stages for late rice. The results of this study provides references for the farmer and governor in growth of late rice.
