Coccolithophores are a class of marine micro-phytoplankton which widely distributed in the global ocean, and they are one of the marine phytoplankton functional groups which play important role in calcification, and play an important role in the carbon cycle of the ocean by inorganic carbon fixation. During the rapid proliferation of coccolithophores it releases large amounts of volatile dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and acrylic acid, then make great influence on the climate change, particularly the regional environmental effects (greenhouse).
