Drought is one of the major agro-meteorological disasters in Jilin province, extreme drought seriously hampering crop growth and reducing crop yields. Under the background of global climate change, flood events also appeared increasingly. Based on the daily precipitation data of 18 observational stations in Jilin province during 1961 - 2000,we selected 7 extreme precipitation indices and analyzed the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of extreme precipitation indices within crop growth period. The main conclusions were listed as follows: extreme precipitation indices were all showed increasing trends except GPRr25. GPTDD accounted for 34. 5% of TOTDD averagely, accounted for 56. 4% of the entire growing season. The occurrence frequency of GPCDD and CDD > 10 in each period tend to the average distribution trend. The occurrence frequency of GPRr25 and GPRr50 mainly focused on July and August, the highest occurrence frequency of GPRr25 and GPRr50 appeared in late July. The spatial distribution of GPTDD,GPCDD and TCDD > 10 were decreasing from the northwest to southeast. The spatial changing trend of linear tendency rate of GPTDD、GPCDD、GPRr25 and GPRr50 were not obvious, but the linear tendency rates of GPTDD and GPCDD were all positive, and the linear tendency rates of GPRr25 and GPRr50 were negative in the northwest of Jilin province. This study is important for clearing the changing situation of extreme precipitation in Jilin province, which is helpful for the disaster defense of extreme precipitation.
