A REVIEW OF SPORE-POLLEN-BASED PALEOVEGETATIONAL AND PALEOCLIMATIC RECONSTRUCTION AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE MODERN POLLEN AND VEGETATION IN THE CHANGBAI MOUNTAINS, NORTHEAST CHINA SINCE THE LATE PLEISTOCENE
The Changbai Mountains,Northeast China provides are suitable location for spore-pollen analysis to reconstruct paleo-vegetation and paleo-climate since the Late Pleistocene and to accurately predict future climate change of this region, where the wide distribution of peat-lands and maar lakes provides good carriers of spore-pollen.Over the past decades, the research has experienced three stages from qualitative description,semi-quantitative reconstruction to quantitative reconstruction. With the increase in the sample collections of the sediment cores, the researchers were able to disclose more climate events, the periodical climate patterns, and the mechanism of climate change.Meanwhile, in order to improve the accuracy of quantitative reconstruction on paleo-vegetation and paleo-climate,in The Changbai Mountains carried out research was also on the relationship between modern spore-pollen and vegetation. With the progress of the understanding of the relationship between modern spore-pollen and vegetation, researchers can not only make more accurate reconstructions of paleo-vegetaion and paleo-climate,but also propose better predictions of future climate change.
