The Dalianhe oil shale mine lies in the Yilan area of Heilongjiang Province, which is a half-graben faulted basin. The oil shale formation is controlled by multiple factors. Coal and oil shale became thicker near F_2 fault. That shows gradually on lapping from the lake level with the increasing depositing range of the lake basin. The high system tract (HST) sub-deep lacustrine facies and the transgression system tract (TST) lake-swampy facies caused different genesis types of oil shale. Based on spore and pollen analysis, the climate of oil shale formation generally tended to mild and a temperature decrease. The climatic fluctuations hindered the development of paleontology, reduced the production capacity of organic matter, thereby caused the low oil content of oil shale.
