In this paper, data statistics and ArcGIS were adapted to analyze the temporal and spatial distribution of air pollutants in a heavy industry northern city of Tangshan, with the data from 18 automatic air quality monitoring stations of 14 counties in 2014, The following six pollutants were monitored : PM_(10), SO_2, NO_2, PM_(2.5), O_3,CO. By using the geographic information system(ArcGIS),grid model was established on the basis of various automatic monitoring station pollutant data. By using the inverse distance weighting method, the spatial distribution of comprehensive pollution index and concentration of six pollutants during the whole year, heating period and non-heating period was estimated, respectively. The spatial distribution status of pollutants in different periods were being compared directly. It came to a conclusion that the air quality varied due to different time. In other words, it is obvious that the air quality is much better in non-heating period than the heating period. Meanwhile the standard deviation of each grid cell pollution index was calculated. Combining the climate, terrain, industrial development, etc., it concluded that the air quality had a larger fluctuation in northern mountainous area and the downtown neighboring area. These could lay the data foundation for the targeted control, joint defense and pollutants district-cutting plans on districts air pollution.
