英文摘要: Recent evidence shows that seminal fluid can affect females and offspring independently of fertilisation in species lacking conventional 'nuptial gifts'. We argue that a hypothesis from paternal investment systems - that selection can favour changing female preferences that maximise both sperm-borne and seminal fluid-borne benefits - could therefore apply much more broadly. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd.
