This work is to accurately simulate the moisture and temperature of freezing-thawing soil, which makes benefit to the research of water cycle and its response to climate change in cold regions. A novel multi-layer model that combines water and heat transfer based on the model of Water and Energy Transfer Process, WEP-L, was developed. The model predictions matched the experimental measurements in irrigation area of Qianguo well. The results shows that the new model could simulate soil temperature, soil moisture content percentage and soil freezing-thawing process in different depth. Overall, the new model can be used to simulate the distribution and transfer of soil water and heat fluxes.
